GOOD DAY EVERYONE! I hope this finds you all enjoying this beautiful season of Autumn, even if you do have to wear a “hard hat” sometimes so you don’t get knocked out by falling acorns. I know it sounds like we have something or someone running around on our roof all night, especially if there is a breeze blowing. Time just seems to fly by these days so here are a few reminder dates to put on your calendar:
- October is Fire Prevention month so please keep our VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FIRST RESPONDERS in mind. It’s also a perfect time to send off a “thank you” note with a check inside. Don’t forget to change out your batteries in your smoke alarms and other detectors. I would like you to know that the “911 Community Task Force” has once again provided baskets of treats and homemade goodies and cases of water to the 6 fire departments that serve the lake in Mecklenburg County. If you would like to help out in any way, and there are many ways to serve, please contact me, Peggy Donochod 636-2494 or pdonochod@gmail.com
- OCTOBER 22ND IS OUR SEMI-ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING at 10 a.m. held at the Prospect United Methodist Church, 1974 Ebony Rd (Rt 903), Ebony, VA. We hope you’ll join us and find out what’s happening in your neighborhood and bring us your ideas and/or concerns.
Here are a few items you’ll learn more about, and it’s ALL really GOOD NEWS:
As a “follow-up” to an email titled “Holly Grove Short Term Rentals” on September 26th, the Holly Grove Estates Board of Directors established a Special Committee to address multiple reported issues. It is the opinion of the Committee that an increased awareness of the issues and recommended steps to mitigate those occurrences will lead to an improved and safer environment for all Holly Grove Estates residents and visitors. This is the end state objective of the Special Committee. The findings of this Committee are primarily tailored to those home owners that rent their property, but it is a good refresher for all of our property owners. The Special Committee is comprised of full-time residents, part-time residents and residents who rent their property within Holly Grove Estates.
Did you know that we’ve already had some paving and patching done on our roads? Holly Grove Lane was resurfaced from between the two Y intersections as well as Brandon Court. I’m sure you’ve noticed that as our neighborhood “ages” it too begins to “spread out”, so we now are attending to removing some of the leaning and dead trees along the roads. This is an ongoing project and quite an expense.
You may have heard that there is the strong possibility of a cell tower being installed near 903 and Morristown Road. I understand that this will be a single-pole 200’ tower and will be “tucked” into the trees. This will be a real plus for our entire area to get faster 911 support and better reception, so please be sure to support this project!
Another “hear-say” is that our dumpsters may be closing and an official recycling center opening up. I don’t know anything firm at this time. What I do want to mention is that this may bring up a new “issue” for our neighborhood that we need to consider. We may find that more folks are going to sign up for “trash pick up”. This can be a problem as cans should not be left out on the road for extended periods of time. They may blow around and be vandalized by some of our local critters if they are not secure. Hmmmmmm “Food” for thought!!!!
CHRISTMAS is a’comin and we just love to get together with the neighbors and celebrate. We’re looking for a volunteer to “host” this years’ CHRISTMAS GATHERING with our friends and neighbors. Everyone brings a covered dish and/or desert AND whatever they like to drink. We have some great cooks in this neighborhood so you know you won’t go away hungry. And, this makes it easy on the host as they just need to supply paper products, light drinks and mixers, cups etc. If you want to do this differently let us know. We usually have this in the early part of December (2nd weekend) but again, that’s up to you! We look forward to hearing from you.
WE NEED TO HAVE A PARTY…WE HAVE SO MANY NEW NEIGHBORS TO MEET. WELCOME TO:

ANOTHER REMINDER from the “911 Community Task Force”: Don’t forget to get the 4” reflective house number sign for the end of your driveway. You can get these at Ace Hardware or through Butch at the Wildwood Fire Dept 252-532-1877. You can also contact Dominion Power to get a new reflective boat dock number sign. This volunteer organization began in 2018 and has accomplished amazing things so far. To check it out go to LKGtaskforce.org If you need a 911 packet ask us, or you can get one from the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce on Eaton Ferry Road (next to Subway) or at the Wildwood Nursery on River Road.
In CLOSING, I would like to close with more GOOD NEWS……..LAKELAND CULTURAL ART CENTER, LITTLETON is back and better then ever!!!! Check it out.
