Hello All! How nice to see the words “Spring/Summer” after this Winter! We hope everyone has stayed safe and warm. I’m sure that you’re now looking forward to spending lots of time at and in the lake, being cool…. and hot.
Our ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING was held, Sat., April 26th at the Rosemont Winery. Good news from this meeting is that there will be no increase in our dues this year. In addition to other general business we held our annual elections. The slate of candidates elected for the 2014/2015 Board are:
President: Ray Marshall (new 3 year term) Treasurer: Al Veeck (one year)
Secretary: Faye Harris (2 years)
Director: Gary Shore (2 yrs) Director: Carol Haefner (new 3 yrs)
Director: Bill Biddle (1 year) Director: Sally Cline (2 years)
Director: Peggy Donochod (new 3 yrs) Director: Jane Barker (1 year)
As you can see, election is for three years, with three candidates rotating off each year (or offering to run again, which is a very good sign about our HOA!). If you would like to participate we would REALLY APPRECIATE hearing from YOU!
Good and bad Boat ramp news….the bad news is the bottom of our boat ramp is in need of repair and the good news is that we are looking into what it will entail and are planning on having it done this year. Our ramp is an important asset to our community and it needs to be kept in good order which is no small task. As a “heads up” while repairs are being made, you may need to use the public ramps for a short time. Please note that using the ramp is: “At Your Own Risk”. More information will be forthcoming. Check the web site, or be sure to give me your e-mail address so that you can be notified quickly (pdono@bitbroadband.com).
Our paved roads are not only an asset to our community, but also our largest expense. Please drive slowly, especially around the curves, to help maintain the roads and keep our neighborhood a safe place to walk or bike. This year we will be repaving Winding Way.
Speaking of $$$$$ don’t forget to pay your dues!! AND please remember to donate $$$$$ to our wonderful Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Dept and First Responders. They are truly our “lifesavers” and we thank each and every one.
As we ALL too well know it was quite a “winter”. To help keep our roads safe and clear and our electricity flowing, we had four dangerous trees removed and we needed to have snow removed three times! V.J. Sykes was quite busy.
Some time ago there was a water leak at the C well house and we say “thanks” to Melissa and Ron Timm for their diligence in finding the source of the problem.
Good news….and/or Bad news….we’ve yet to see… AQUA is currently installing water meters in Sections C & D. According to their notice they intend to begin using the “metered service” sometime in 2015. So far, our pressure has been up, and when we’ve had problems they have been quite responsive.
It’s always exciting to have a new people moving into our community. A belated welcome to Mike and Michelle Ezzell of Zebulon, NC who live at 403 Lakeview, and welcome to Craig and Susan Owens of Chesapeake, VA at 332 Lakeview Drive. Also, we’re looking forward to having the Tripp family becoming residents in their lovely new house on Boyd Drive at the point of Brandon Cove. A warm Welcome to all of our new residents!!! (If you’re a new neighbor and I’ve missed welcoming you, please contact me: pdono@bitbroadband.com thanks!)
Unfortunately, sometimes our “Good News” Letter must share sad news too. We have lost two of our members: Mike Schottenbauer of Lakeview Dr, long-time member and past President of our HOA; and Bill Neff of Winding Way have both passed on. As a caring community we express our sincerest condolences to both families and friends.
We have had several complaints about dogs running around the neighborhood in a “pack” of 3 or 4. Unfortunately, even the nicest of dogs can get into “trouble” when in a “pack”. Please be a good neighbor and keep your dog on your property and do NOT allow them to run loose with other dogs. Thanks!
Don’t forget about the boating laws and the importance of getting your boating certificates! Here are some of the highlights required by July 1st 2014:
- ALL PWC operators, regardless of age must have completed the course.
- Motorboat operators 45 or younger must have completed the course (age 50 by 2015) and ALL by July 1st, 2016!
- Be sure to observe all NO WAKE zones rules and stay at least 50’ away from docks!
- Did you know that ALL children under 13 MUST wear life jackets when boating, or you get a fine if stopped?
- AND remember that YOU are responsible (liable) for the actions of anyone driving your boat or PWC. It’s really easy……If we all follow the “do unto others” rule, we’ll all have a fun and safe summer and a wonderful neighborhood.
We are planning ahead and we’d like you to do the same. Mark your calendars for Oct. 18th for our semi-annual General Membership Meeting AND ANNUAL PIG PICKIN’, Hmmmmmmmmmmm I can smell it cookin’ now!!!!!!!!! We thank Karen Arrington for inviting us into her driveway again, and all the folks in A Section who help make it comfortable for all of us. More info TBA.
In closing, I’d like to share the latest Good News “Scoop”! AND IT’S A BIG ONE! Did you know that ON July 1st CMH will become a division of the VCU Health System? This will bring greater access to a wide range of specialists and advanced healthcare services to our area…. AND they will be building a new larger hospital. It will be named VCU Community Memorial Hospital and is expected to be completed in 48 months the new location to be in the vicinity of Kahill’s in South Hill off Hwy 1.
NOW THAT’S A GOOD NEWS LETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE!,
Peggy and the Board
