GOOD NEWS LETTER

SUMMER 2015
MARK YOUR CALENDAR now for the October General Membership Meeting. It will be held on October 10th, at 10 a.m. at the Rosemont Winery. It’s a special day at Rosemont when they celebrate their Harvest Festival! The HOA will treat all of our members to a wine tasting as our “social event” this year. We hope you will stay and enjoy the harvest festivities as well as the wonderful company!
GOOD NEWS and BAD NEWS…….The good news is that no one was hurt….the BAD NEWS is…. last week the Board got a call from one of our neighbors, the Bicksler’s 231 Lakeview Drive . They found a hunting arrow (not a target arrow) imbedded in a tree in their driveway, near their house, right where their family and grandchildren had been playing ball just the day before. Needless to say, they are upset and concerned, and rightfully so! This is a NEIGHBORHOOD, we have homes with people and pets on every road, waterfront and off water. We walk, run and bike on our roads and deserve to do so in safety! This is the second bow and arrow incident in Holly Grove. I personally was almost struck on Winding Way several years ago, when someone shot an arrow across the road. If you see someone with a bow and arrow, please let us know. Keeping safe is something that we all care about, and the GOOD NEWS is that it is something we all can DO something about. Please keep safety first!!!!!!
SPEAKING OF SAFETY…….DID YOU KNOW that you can check on the VA Forestry web site (www.dof.virginia.gov > Virginia Forestry Laws and Restrictions) for burning restrictions? ALWAYS CHECK BEFORE YOU BURN!
A REMINDER……It is summer and there are lots of vessels on the lake. Be sure to get your boating license! ALL AGES MUST HAVE A LICENSE TO DRIVE A PWC. BOATS with 10 hp or greater, folks 50 or younger by July 1, 2015 and ALL AGES required by July 1, 2016. You can take these courses in person or on your computer. Check with www.dgif.virginia.gov/boating/education/
LET’S GET TO SOME GOOD NEWS…….SPEAKING OF BOATING, we are very proud of our newly replaced boat ramp! However…… we need to remind everyone that this dock is for temporary input and takeout of boats ONLY. For the safety of all, DO NOT tie up your boat at the dock, or park your vehicles for an extended time. If you rent your property, be sure to inform your tenants that this dock is not an “extension” of your dock and should not be treated as such. Thanks for your cooperation and consideration.
THANKS for paying your dues on time! It’s important if you want to avoid paying the late fees. As we have mentioned before, we work very hard to do all that we need to do and stay within the budget. Before this year, the last time the dues were raised was 1991, we have a great neighborhood and we have done well, thanks to the work of this Volunteer Board and all the past Boards! The next Board meeting is scheduled for September 19th, 9 a.m. at Pres. Ray Marshall’s home.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT…..please consider joining the Board. Our board is a great mix of “old and new” members, which is so important as it brings consistency and knowledge of the past, as well as new and updated ideas for the future, as you can see from our website (www.hollygrovelg.com). This would not have happened without some wonderful “new blood” on the Board, I’m still a hammer and chisel person! We’re excited as this makes for a smooth transition into the future for Holly Grove Estates. We hope you will consider being a part of that future. Each year we have three members whose terms end and we hold elections at our April General Membership Meeting. If you have any questions, or if you are interested in being a part of our Board, sometime in the future, please contact Peggy Donochod 434-636-2494. The latest addition to the website is the Neighborhood Directory and some great photos of lake and neighborhood events, thanks to our very own “paparazzi” Frank Liberto!
MORE GOOD NEWS…We have lots of new folks that we would like to WELCOME to HOLLY GROVE ESTATES:

. Wallace & Edith Coker from Petersburg, VA bought 298 Lakeview Drive
. Gerald and Elizabeth Young from Hyattsville, MD bought Lot D-16 (about 250 Brandon Ct.)
